Attention Deficit Disorder Affects You In Childhood And Can Continue Even Into Your Adult Years

Attention deficit disorder or ADD for short is a condition that is psychosomatic and it is mostly seen to be a problem with learning as well as disorders related to behavior, and it is mostly diagnosed as a problem with children though it is more commonly found to affect male infants than females. In fact, attention deficit disorder is known to begin during childhood though it can even affect a person in his or her adult years, and it is characterized with anti-social behavior, which however are absent in children suffering from the problem.

Common Symptoms

The common symptoms of attention deficit disorder in children include being inattentive and behaving impulsively and sometimes when the condition becomes hyperactive, there is difficulty felt in doing homework, or even conducting a conversation, and affected persons generally take risks and thus are more liable to get injured accidentally. Inattentiveness that is a common symptom of attention deficit disorder can lead to committing careless mistakes and it also results in not being able to complete given tasks as well as not being a good listener and generally suffering from forgetfulness in the daily routines.

There are other symptoms as well that include being impulsive and frequently interrupting conversations and not being patient as well a saying the answer prior to even the question being completed. And, in adults, attention deficit disorder leads to taking of risks while also being careless as well as impulsive and not being able to manage time too well. In addition, their lives are generally without a structure and there is also little if any self-control or even self-motivation.

The worst part about attention deficit disorder is the difficulty in diagnosing the problem and even providing proper treatment is difficult, especially because there are accompanying mood disorders and even other follies are committed such as substance abuse and psychological disorders. At one time, the medical fraternity thought that the condition that affected children as also adolescents would soon disappear once the person became an adult, though now it is known that if the condition is not treated in time, it can lead to further problems for the person affected as well as his/her family.

Thus, there is need for a person suffering from attention deficit disorder to get timely medical attention and not leave it untreated thinking that it will soon disappear because that is not the case. Seeking immediate medical help will put the affected person less at risk of doing something that will later be regretted, and given that people with this condition will often take to doing risky things, it must be brought under control at the earliest.

Choosing To Go Green With Your Child’s Adhd Medications

ADHD medications are often the first treatment option of some well-meaning pediatricians. Because ADHD medication has been used to suppress many of the symptoms, children and their parents may not even be told of the numerous options that are available to them. It is important to be aware of supplements that can offer you a natural way of dealing with ADHD.

Parents today want to be well informed about medications and treatment plans for themselves and their children. The internet is a prime resource to use to find out which ADHD medications are being used. You can also find out a great deal of information about side effects of any single ADHD medication. Of course, you can rely on your pediatrician or other medical professionals to answer questions, but many times, they choose to gloss over possible side effects of prescription medications. There are also a number of physicians that will try to steer you onto their treatment path without giving natural options a fair hearing.

Some of the most common of ADHD medications include Ritalin, Concerta, Adderall, and Vyvanse. Of these, the Vyvanse is the newest and is the one with the lowest percentage of side effects, but each ADHD medication is still a controlled substance. All of them belong to a group of drugs known as amphetamines. Not only do amphetamines carry associated risks such as strokes and seizures, this medication class is one that is very often abused. Any amphetamine increases the Heart Rate and Blood Pressure, and there are other side effects that can occur including nervous tics, delusions, hallucinations, dry mouth, and skin rashes.

According to many holistic medical practitioners and child psychologists, these drugs can create more problems than they cure. Unlike manufactured ADHD medications, natural supplements can be used with complete safety and they are free of side effects. These products offer parents and children an organic alternative to a risky ADHD medication.

Research is showing that one or more chemical imbalances in the brain is often the major contributing factor that leads to many of the learning disorders seen in children today. There is a noted deficiency of critical fatty acids, as well as low levels of dopamine that has been shown to correspond with the diagnosis of conditions such as ADD and ADHD. It has become an accepted practice to offer parents a “Quick Fix” by treating children with ADHD medications but this is just a way of dealing with some of the symptoms.

What parents want is a real solution not a hastily written prescription for the latest ADHD medication. There has been a great deal of study involving natural treatment options and how effective these supplements are. Doctors are aware that using natural means to heal and restore balance to someone is an ideal plan of care. This is why the use of completely organic products should be suggested by both parents and physicians.

There are numerous ADHD natural supplements that can help restore the chemical balances to the brain without risking the health of the patient. Parents should understand that these organic based supplements will not show the drastic change that is seen when ADHD medications are used. These products will prove safe and effective when used consistently over several weeks or months. The knowledge that there are natural and risk free options to using an ADHD medication is bringing relief and new hope to parents around the world.

All Natural ADHD Treatment

It has been indicated in many scientific studies that children with ADHD are metabolically different than the average child. These differences in metabolism and cellular functioning affect how a child perceives and interacts with his or her surroundings. It is through these differences that changes in diet and the addition of certain natural supplements can help a child adjust and focus.

While many fads in the treatment of Attention Deficit Disorder come and go there are few who would argue with the effectiveness of even the addition of simple multivitamins, including zinc as a supplement to average low quality diet all too common in todays children’s lives.

Vitamin B6 as a treatment option for ADHD came onto the scene during the 1980’s and was touted as being an all natural cure for the treatment of inattentiveness and lack of focus. Its overall function is that of regulating amino acid metabolism. Many intriguing studies have shown that vitamin B6 in combination with Magnesium can improve a child ability to focus in school as well as reducing the levels of hyperactivity and aggressiveness.

Another all natural treatment option for ADHD is Omega 3 Fatty Acids. It has been suggested by many studies that children who were not breastfed were more likely to develop ADHD, and many believe that this is due to a mothers natural production of fatty acids in her breast milk.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids can be found in Fish Oil, Hemp Milk and other supplements. Dosages as little as 1 gram have been shown to significantly reduce the symptoms of ADHD in varying degrees when taken regularly over a period of time, from three to six months. It not only alleviates the symptoms of ADHD but can help with depression and aggressiveness.

Ginkgo Biloba, a Chinese medicinal extract long known for its power to increase memory and improve concentration, has an almost immediate effect on ones ability to concentrate upon ingestion. The effects can last for several hours with little or no side effects. However it should not be taken with any other anti-coagulant medications or combined with aspirin or ibuprofen as the combined effect prevents the clotting action of red blood cells. It should also not be taken by people already using MOI based anti depressants.

Stimulants such as Ritalin are an often prescribed medication for the treatment of ADHD, however it has been shown that Caffeine and certain other herbal stimulants can have a similar effect without the harsh side effects experienced by some children.

Caffeine has been shown to stimulate the frontal lobe of the brain increasing short term memory and therefore ones ability to focus on the task at hand. However if one does not suffer from ADHD symptoms the regular intake of caffeine can lead to a caffeine induced anxiety disorder at which point consumption should cease so that the body can return to normal.

As you can see there are a variety of all natural options that exist as alternatives to over the counter drugs such as Ritalin and Aderal. Indeed the recall of previously approved ADHD treatment medications such as Cylert for sale in the United States shows that though they are currently believed to be the best medications they are not the only option.

The ADHD Treatment website is a useful resource for information regarding many aspects of Attention Deficit Disorder, including Medications, All Natural Treatment Options and the Stimulant Adjustment Process. The is also information on the treatment of Adult ADHD.
